Description

With its purple flowers and blue-green leaves, heartleaf milkweed is one of the most colorful western milkweed species. A larval host plant for the monarch butterfly, heartleaf milkweed can be found growing in open grassland, or rocky habitat in sunny openings in oak woodland or forest. This uncommon plant is perfect for a rock garden or other area with sharp drainage. But it is equally at home in heavy clay soil as well. Unlike some other common milkweed species, heartleaf milkweed grows from a deep taproot adapted to the dry locations where it naturally grows. Slow growing at first, heartleaf milkweed will eventually become a multi-stemmed clump with purple flowers blooming May-June. Deer resistant and drought tolerant. Attractive to a wide variety of pollinator species!

Heartleaf milkweed (Asclepias cordifolia) seed packets contain approximately 30 seeds per packet.

Seed Germination Instructions
