Description

Harvest brodiaea makes a bold statement when it blooms in profusion at a time when most other plants have dried and gone to seed. Growing from a corm, harvest brodiaea provides mid-season pollen and nectar for a wide variety of pollinators, especially bees, butterflies and pollinating flies. The showy flowers have six curving petals that are shades of violet, blue, lavender or purple. Harvest brodiaea is most often found in sunny openings in woodlands, meadows and grasslands. It is native to California and Oregon and is adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions, even harsh clay. Once established harvest brodiaea is very drought tolerant, but it can take occasional summer irrigation in the garden setting with good drainage. Moderately deer resistant. Harvest brodiaea corms have historically been and continue to be an important food source for many Native American tribes.

Harvest brodiaea (Brodiaea elegans) seed packets contain approximately 195 seeds.
