Description

Typically growing 2′-4′ tall, Calfornia fescue is a large, ornamental native bunchgrass with blue-green foliage that can be found growing in many different plant communities, including chaparral, oak or madrone woodland, mixed conifer forest or pine forest. Growing in sun to part-shade, California fescue tolerates a wide variety of soil types, but prefers loamy or clay soils. Its deep roots make it a good species for erosion control. It is also a good candidate for inclusion in habitat restoration projects, as the seeds are a good source of food for birds and other wildlife species. It is also a larval host plant for certain butterfly species. California fescue is native only to Oregon and California.

California fescue (Festuca californica) seed packets contain approximately 75 seeds.
