Description
Jessica stickseed has a gorgeous blue flower that blooms in early summer that turns into a large, prickly seed in late summer that sticks to animal fur and human clothing, which aids in seed dispersal. It also goes by the common names Jessica sticktight, blue stickseed, and meadow stickseed. Native to the western United States, Canada, and northern Mexico. Jessica stickseed is a perennial wildflower in the borage (Boraginaceae) family. It prefers to grow in moist meadows, forest openings, montane slopes, sagebrush steppe and along streams at mid to high elevations. Jessica stickseed has large, lance-shaped green leaves and a flowering stalk that can reach up to a maximum height of 3′-4′ when in bloom. The small blue flowers have five rounded lobes and a white or yellow eye. Jessica stickseed prefers moist soil and full to part sun. The flowers are attractive to many species of pollinator, especially native bees.
