The blue-green foliage gives rise to broad umbels of yellow-green flowers frequently visited by many small pollinating insects. California lomatium is a larval host plant for the anise swallowtail butterfly that uses plants in the carrot family. Long used as a strong medicinal plant by Native Americans and modern herbalists alike, California lomatium is used medicinally for a variety of ailments. A perennial wildflower that typically grows 2′-4′ tall, California lomatium inhabits very dry, sunny, rocky areas, ridgelines, chaparral slopes, and openings in oak woodland.

Seed Germination Instructions

60-90 days of cold-moist stratification is recommended. Sow seeds outside in fall to early winter and let nature do the stratification naturally outside, if you have cold enough winters. If you live in an area with mild winters, you may need to provide the cold-moist stratification artificially. For more information please read through the information in our Seed Germination and Propagation Reference Guide.
