Description

Campanulate campion is an engaging perennial wildflower in the pink (Caryopyllaceae) family that is native to the mountains of Oregon and California. The cute, nodding, bell-shaped flowers are white to greenish or pink with fringed petals. The stamens and styles protrude from the flower’s center. Blooms May-August depending on elevation. The whole plant can sometimes be glandular and sticky. In the wild campanulate campion grows in areas with good drainage on rocky ridgelines, among chaparral, in light forests, and woodland margins. The erect to arching stems grow 6″-12″ tall. Can tolerate full sun but may benefit from part shade at lower elevations. Prefers coarse soil with good drainage. Attractive to bees and other pollinators.

Campanulate campion (Silene greenei)  seed packets contain approximately 50 seeds per packet.

Note: This species recently underwent a name change. The former name was Silene campanulata.

Seed Germination Instructions

30-60 days cold-moist stratification. Sow seeds outside in fall to late winter and let nature do the stratification naturally outside, if you have cold enough winters. If you live in an area with mild winters, you may need to provide the cold-moist stratification artificially. For more information please read through the information in our Seed Germination and Propagation Reference Guide.
